Anatoli Karpov is going to complete the historical revenge against Garry Kasparov. It will be one of the biggest sports duel ever. He comes from Russia, where he lives, and he arrives at 21:00 to the airport. Although the days of the match he’ll stay at the hotel ‘Puerta de la Mar’, until then, he plans on staying close to the beach to concentrate and prepare this match, which both of them are taking very seriously, despite of being an exhibition.
According to the organization, the association ‘Valencia, cuna del ajedrez moderno’, both Karpov and Kasparov are taking the revenge “with the same dedication as if it was the legendary final 25 years ago confronted them for the first time, because they are aware of the repercussion it’s going to have all over the world and the rivalry between them continues as intense as always”.
For this reason, Karpov comes to Valencia together with a team of trainers who will accompany him during the previous days and will escort him at the match. It’s an elite team which has been contracted specially for this occasion. Under the members, it’s important to point out the presence of 39 year old Moldavian Chess Grand Master Victor Bologan, who has more than 40 victories in prestigious international tournaments and who was champion of the USSR under 20.
Karpov comes to the match with a least disadvantage in the balance of the results with Kasparov, who imposes in the total of their matches: five titles for the World’s Champion Title, with a balance of 21 victories, 19 losses and 104 draw, which confirms how levelled their play is.
The match between Karpov and Kasparov is going to be the most important event of the historical acts organized by ‘Valencia, cuna del ajedrez moderno’. Both legends of the boards confirm the Valencian origin of the sports of the board, whose new rules, based on the importance of the move of the queen, were written by Francesc Vicent, from Segorb, in the XVth century , a very important fact which isn’t too known under the public.
